Two Tanzanians Among 3 Arrested With Elephant Tusks Worth 5000 dollars in Kisumu kenya

Three suspects, among them two Tanzanians, have been apprehended by police in Kisumu city of Kenya after they were found in possession of elephant tusks.

In a statement from the Kenya Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, 52-year-old Wilson Korio was arrested together with Tanzanians Jakaya Mchubo Paswa (42), and Lemintiye Mbukoti (27), after they were found with eight pieces of elephant tusks weighing 16kg.

DCI says that the arrest came after detectives in Kisumu received a tip-off from an informant, and then liaised with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) personnel to make the bust.

A fourth suspect who is said to have attempted to rescue his accomplices was shot on the arms in the process before he sped off on a motorbike.

Meanwhile, the three will remain in custody pending arraignment on Wednesday, December 27, 2022.
