

The Uganda government confirmed that its troops in Somalia under the AMISOM have not been paid for almost 10 months. Both Uganda and AMISOM authorities did not clarify on what caused troops to not receive their salaries for these months.
Responding to a question by the Ugandan Defense Committee of Parliament, the ministry dismissed claims that the forces had been paid for more than10 Months. Ugandan official added that for the months before March 2021, the troops were paid allowances on top of their salaries from the Government of Uganda that is not in arrears.
Uganda was the first African country to send its soldiers to Somalia, therefore spearheading the Amisom in March 2007. Somalia now demands AMISOM to withdraw from its territory though there are ongoing efforts aimed to revisit the mandate mission of AMISOM.
