According to a State House statement, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has promised to provide more military equipment to Somalia to help fight al-Shabab fighters.
Museveni said while the East African region can work toward providing equipment to Somalia, the country should have a plan to build a national army. President Hassan Sheikh of Somalia expressed gratitude to Museveni for dispatching his troops, now numbering more than 6,000, to join the more significant peacekeeping force, ATMIS, commissioned by the African Union.
He said that his government was committed to wiping out Al-Shabaab from all parts of the country and that, within the next six months, his government would have attained full victory over the group
