The director of the United Kingdom government’s Joint International Counter-Terrorism Unit Ms Jane Marriott is the new High Commissioner to Kenya. Marriot is expected to take over outgoing envoy Nic Hailey following the new development.
The British Commission’s head of communications, Kenya and Somalia, Ms Alice Simpson has confirmed her appointment in the new position.
Marriot, who was appointed on Thursday, has played a critical role in the fight against terror. Her appointment is good news to Kenya as far as the war against Al Shabaab is concerned.
She worked in different departments before her appointment including commonwealth office and ministry of defense.
“Ms Marriott is the first woman to be appointed to the role. She brings a wealth of experience to the position, having worked across many UK government departments including the foreign and commonwealth office, the cabinet office, the home office and the ministry of defence,” read a statement, as seen by Daily Nation.
Marriot could not hide her joy following the appointment.
She took to her social media account to share the joy with her supporters.
“Very excited about my new role and looking forward to building on the relationship and partnership between our two countries,” she said moments after her appointment.
