The United Nations has hailed President Farmajo’s call for a consultative meeting and urged the Political stakeholders to reach a lasting solution for their political disagreement.
In a Twitter post, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) expressed gratitude to the President for calling on a consultative forum in Dhuusamareeb town of central Somalia.
International community representatives on Saturday held a meeting with president Farmajo over the current political stalemate.
According to Villa Somalia, during the meeting, the president expressed his Government’s commitment to uphold the electoral agreement signed on 17 September 2020 as ratified by the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
The meeting between president Farmajo and the international community representatives comes barely two days after Jubbaland and Puntland states announced their FIEIT members, a move welcomed by Somalia’s partners.
the international community called for a single agreed electoral process – without parallel or partial alternatives – that will be conducted peacefully with protection of political space and media freedom, guarantees the 30 per cent women’s quota, and results in a credible and inclusive outcome that serves the national interest.
