UN Security Council members express deep concern about the ongoing disagreement within the Somalia top Government officials and the negative impact on the electoral timetable and process; they urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint, and underlined the importance of maintaining peace.
The UN Security council has called on President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed and Prime Minister Roble to bring to an end the current political stand-off. In a statement, UN said the electoral process must continue to move forward peacefully, in line with the previously agreed timetable.
The remarks come after the international community warned that the escalating dispute between the President and Prime Minister will undermine Somalia’s stability and derail the electoral process.
The pair have clashed over high-profile appointments this month due to the disappearance of Somali female agence, and their spat threatens to imperil repeatedly delayed elections in the Horn of Africa nation and distract from efforts to confront a long-running Alshabab group.
