According to a statement released by the US’ African state department, US is urging Somalia authorities to hold parliamentary and presidential elections before this year ends and to accelerate the electoral pending duties.
The US advised Somalia’s national consultation forum spearheaded by the Prime minister to prioritise the election process including directing federal member state leaders to expedite it and take their role.
The statement asked Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime minister Mohamed Hussein Rooble to resolve their political disagreements. It also reads that The U.S. remains committed to Somalia’s peace, security, and prosperity.
Most of the federal member states had concluded the senatorial election and the country now prepares to hold the house of representative and Presidential elections despite growing concerns over the possibility of further delays of Somalia’s elections.
