Addis Ababa, April 20, 2019 –Ambassador of Ethiopia to Kenya, Meles Alem, said that his country is committed towards elevating its relation with neighboring countries and promoting regional peace.
While introducing himself to Kenyan journalists on Thursday, he said “In addition to achieving domestic peace and stability, Ethiopia will work to improve its ties with its neighbors and promote regional peace.”
“Ethiopia’s foreign policy focused on neighbors and this will be strengthened.” Ambassador Meles also briefed the journalists about the political and economic reforms undertaken in Ethiopia over the past one year.
The international community is keen to support the ongoing sweeping reform, he said, citing the recent visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya to Ethiopia as a case in point. Following the visit, Kenyan investors are showing interest to invest in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia and Kenya are executing successful joint projects in various fields, he said, this time also indicating the construction of three berths at Lamu port, which currently stands 62-99% completion status, as an example.
The first terminal is expected to be inaugurated in June, 2019. The Lamu port is being built under the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPPSET) corridor project, an economic and transport corridor that stretches from Kenya to South Sudan and Ethiopia.
