Somali PM inaugurates a modern prison and court complex facility in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (Somaliland.com)-Somali prime minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre has inaugurated a modern prison and court complex facility in the capital, Mogadishu on Saturday.

The construction of the facility commenced in 2016 and was launched by the former Prime Minister, Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke with funding from UK, Norway, and the Netherlands via the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Office in the country.

The inauguration of the correctional facility which was described as one of the best in the continent was attended by representatives from the donor states.

The new correctional facility which is situated at the Ex-control Afgoye neighbourhood in Mogadishu will become the second prison in the capital, besides the Central Prison, which is currently the only correctional facility to rehabilitate prisoners.

Prime Hassan Kheyre has thanked the international partners for the support while at the same time launching the construction of Islamic institutional inside facility to rehabilitate militants from the extremist groups fighting in the country.

The Somali custodian corps showcased their new skills by teaching the inmates while handing over a new book authored by one of the prisoners to the PM as a gift during the ceremony that also collided with the 49th anniversary since the establishment of the Somali custodian corps.

Minister for Justice, Hassan Hussein Hajji and the commissioner of custodian corps, General Bashir Mohamed Jama were also present.
