At least three people have reportedly been killed and 80 others injured in Sudan following a coup taking place in the Country. The military dissolved civilian rule, arrested the Prime minister and other political leaders as well as declared a state of emergency.
Thousands of protesters took to the streets of the capital, Khartoum, and its twin city of Omdurman following the early morning arrest of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and other senior officials.
Video footage from Khartoum on Monday showed large groups in the streets, including many women. Barricades of burning tyres can be seen, with plumes of black smoke rising in various parts of the city.
The internet has been cut off, while roads and bridges in Khartoum have been blocked. The airport has also been closed and the headquarters of state television and radio were raided by security forces.
