Ajman; an emirate in the UAE which is about 40 kilometres from Dubai; witnessed a massive fire outbreak yesterday.
The fire was reported to have started at 6.30 pm on Wednesday at an Iranian street market close to Ajman Specialist Hospital and a vegetable market in the city’s industrial area.
The medical centre had to be evacuated as a precautionary measure as the raging fire formed thick dark rings of smoke that rose into the sky.
The market has however been closed for several months as part of the emirate’s effort to combat the spread of Covid-19.
Police confirmed that they were no casualties.
The cause of the fire is yet unknown.
Several shop owners tried to put out the fire with fire extinguishers from their shops but were unable to until Ajman Civil Defence arrived at the scene and successfully quashed the fire at about 9pm, with the assistance of personnel from Dubai, Sharjah and Umm AL Quwain.
The Ajman Police Commander-in-Chief, Major Gen. Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nauimi said the police have immediately commenced investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
