

Nuur Mohamud Sheekh, the Spokesperson and confidante of the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, has announced his resignation after three years in the role and a dedicated seven-year tenure at IGAD.
During his term as Spokesperson, Nuur fostered strong relationships with communities, diplomatic counterparts, and the media, contributing significantly to enhancing IGAD’s organizational culture, brand, and reputation.
Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu expressed his appreciation for Nuur’s exceptional service, stating, “Dear Nuur, your absence will be very visible in our future endeavors. You were a friend and a very good colleague for all IGAD staff. An amazing communicator, you served IGAD with high professionalism, dedication, and integrity.”
In a social media post, Nuur Mohamud Sheekh reflected on his time at IGAD, expressing gratitude for the privilege of serving as the spokesperson under Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu’s leadership.
He acknowledged the invaluable knowledge and insights gained in diplomacy during this period. Nuur also extended heartfelt thanks to IGAD member states, the dedicated IGAD staff, valued partners, and the media for their support.
Nuur’s resignation marks the departure of a key figure who played a major role in shaping the organization’s communication and relationships over the past seven years.
