Mogadishu, 25,October 2018. The body of Somalia’s deputy leader of the outlawed ISIS group has been found near a beach in Mogadishu. Mahad Moalim has been on America’s most wanted terrorist list.

Questions have been raised as to who might have killed him, because none of the groups fighting against the outlawed groups in Somalia, such as the country’s army, America’s drone attacks, AMISOM, or Kenya Defense Forces(KDF) have claimed responsibility.

Claims are rife that he might have been killed after the group’s leader fell ill, creating a power vacuum, as his deputies began fighting on who to take over. His family also believe that his death might have been instigated by those in line to succeed their ailing leader.

United States of America has accused him of being an arms dealer into Somalia, bringing arms from the conflict-ridden Yemen, in order to sustain the Jihadi war. ISIS is not as strong as Al-shabab in Somalia though, but their presence cannot be ignored. There was fear among Al-shabab group that the ISIS group would recruit their own and sideline their caliphate role in Somalia, but their influence has remained subdued.
