Kenya, Ethiopia Sign Memorandums of Understanding spanning crucial areas

Kenya and Ethiopia solidified their enduring partnership through the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). The agreements, which came after the conclusion of the 36th Meeting of the Ethiopia-Kenya Joint Ministerial Commission, centered on collaboration across major sectors and open avenues for heightened cooperation between the two nations.

The MoUs, spanning three vital pillars – Foreign Affairs and Security, Economy, Trade, and Social Affairs – were officially signed during the ceremony.
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, expressed a commitment to expanding the bilateral relations between Kenya and Ethiopia across various domains.
Mudavadi highlighted the significance of ongoing consultations, mutual support in international forums, and the establishment of special status relations with Ethiopia.
He firmly reiterated Kenya’s commitment to broadening the scope and depth of the relationship between the two nations.
On his side, Foreign Minister Taye Atske Sellasie of Ethiopia underscored the importance of presenting a united front against shared threats.
He emphasized the necessity of addressing common challenges such as terrorism, violent extremism, human trafficking, unemployment, climate change, and pandemics through joint efforts and cooperation.
During the ceremony, Taye also called for collaboration in regional and multilateral forums, particularly focusing on international financial reform.
The 36th Ethiopia-Kenya Joint Ministerial Commission expressed satisfaction with the existing strong relationship and conducted a comprehensive review of the current status of bilateral relations.
Both countries recognized the need for coordinated efforts in addressing regional challenges and reaffirmed their dedication to promoting peace, development, and prosperity in the region.
