A man who was found not guilty in Kenya’s Westgate shopping mall terror attack case was abducted on his way home on Friday.
Local media reports state that Liban Abdullahi Omar was in a taxi with his sisters when unknown gunmen stopped the vehicle and abducted him.
His lawyer, Mbugua Mureithi, told the Associated Press news agency that the men identified themselves as security agents. The police have declined to comment.
They reportedly put him in their vehicle’s boot and took away the keys to the taxi as well.
The incident was reported at a police station in the capital, Nairobi.
The suspect was coming from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit offices in the city.
He had been released from the Kamiti Maximum Prison and was going through clearance at the anti-terror office, as is the procedure with terror suspects.
He had been charged along with two others who were both found guilty of aiding terrorists this week and will be sentenced on 22 October.
