This is a historic and long overdue decision.
Hargaysa—16, 09, 2018. Former Minister of Finance Mohamed Hashi Elmi strongly advised the president of Somaliland to restore the Women’s Club building which recently confiscated by the outgoing First Lady Amina Waris back to the hands of the government to combat the rampant corruption. His call came when small scale anti-corruption campaign was underway to restore some stolen fixed public properties of which mainly ex-government buildings occupied by ministers and senior officials who are homeless but want to sell to corrupted businessmen. Dozens of 500 registered buildings of ministries, libraries, and schools in the capital Hargaysa were sold with the blessing of the ex-president. The restoration takes years, some argued.
The sold library, currently owned by private business
Women’s Club stood where the Jirde Hotel currently stands. The hotelier is the former First Lady of president Silanyo. The incumbent president began head counting at the first and registering the public assets that not yet auctioned by his party, Kulmiye. Many Somalilanders see this small step a turnaround of his predecessor who addicted to the wholesale of the remaining public assets including the wildlife.
