Arbitrators and peace-making elders arrived at the area where the hostilities took place, with the aim of reconciling the warring clans of dhulbahante tribe. Many lives were lost during the war while others were left injured and dozens of families were displaced.
Grand Sultan Saleban Burale Adan from a sister clan was at the scene where he said “we have begun peace efforts to bring peace in this village. I hope we will achieve that.” The Grand Sultan asked humanitarian NGOs to provide emergency aid to the victims of the conflict and the displaced families.
Those who were injured have been taken to Mogadishu for medical treatment.
This is one of the darkest days witnessed by the residents of Sool region which is a conflict-prone zone where tribal and politically mitigated wars have been experienced in the past decades.
The traditional mediators who arrived in Dhumay could hardly believe that their efforts would pay off due to the nature of the people and the interplay of politics and tribalism that incites civil wars.
