A significant discussion was recently convened with the members of the National Committee, representing various institutions, to address the comprehensive preparations for the upcoming African Union Executive Council meeting and the African Union Summit scheduled for February 2024 in Addis Ababa.
These high-profile events, emblematic of Ethiopia’s multilateral diplomacy, hold a crucial place in the nation’s agenda.
During the discussion, participants deliberated on the initial plan presented by the stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of meticulous planning and coordination.
It was agreed that the National Committee would oversee the implementation of these plans through the establishment of sub-committees and the secretariat. This multi-pronged approach aims to ensure the seamless execution of both the Executive Council meeting and the African Union Summit.
The Executive Council meeting is slated to take place from February 14 to 15, followed by the African Union Summit scheduled for February 17 to 18, 2024, in the capital city, Addis Ababa.
The events are expected to draw the participation of heads of various international and continental organizations, underscoring their significance on the global stage.
Her Excellency Ambassador Birtukan, while addressing the attendees, stressed the imperative for each institution to diligently fulfill its designated tasks and responsibilities.
Her emphasis on the collective responsibility of all stakeholders highlighted the shared commitment to the success of the African Union Summit.
The National Committee’s Chairman, State Minister Ambassador Burtukan Ayano, provided insights into the structure of the national organizing committee. With more than 22 institutions represented, this committee embodies the collaborative spirit that underpins Ethiopia’s diplomatic efforts.
