President Hassan Sheikh Commends Arab League for Upholding Somalia’s Sovereignty

In a recent meeting with Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Arab League for its unwavering support in safeguarding Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Villa Somalia, the official residence of the President, emphasized the President’s appreciation for the collective commitment of Arab League members in reinforcing the sanctity of Somalia’s sovereignty.

Arab League Chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit, on Wednesday, denounced a maritime accord between the leaders of Ethiopia and Somaliland, citing it as a “clear violation of international law.”

The accord has sparked regional tensions, prompting the Arab League to endorse the Somalia government’s rejection of the agreement.

In response, Somaliland asserts its sovereign right to engage in international agreements and urges the international community to recognize and respect the bilateral accord entered into with Ethiopia.
