President Nana Akufo-Addo vows to protect democracy in Ghana, calls for support from citizens

Ahead of Ghana’s Constitution Day, President Nana Akufo-Addo has vowed that no coup would take place under the watch of his administration while vowing to secure the fourth Republic.

President Akufo-Addo has emphasized the significance of safeguarding and supporting democracy in Ghana, while adding that there will be no military take over under his watch.

In an address delivered on Saturday ahead of Ghana’s Constitution Day, he urged everyone to play an active role in protecting the Fourth Republic’s longevity.

The President voiced a commonly held belief among Ghanaians that democracy is the best form of government while stressing that multi-party democracy has proven to be beneficial for Ghana.

Ahead of the Presidential election in Ghana, Mr Akufo-Addo vowed to deliver a free,fair and transparent poll in December 2024 while promising to sustain the path of democracy in the West African country.

The president added in his statement, “It will not be under my watch that any adventurer will seek to torpedo the democratic path on which we have embarked. I will help see to it that we have a free and fair and transparent election in December 2024,”

He urged fellow Ghanaians to continue to embrace the basic values of the Constitution.

The holiday which is held to recognise Ghana’s 4th republican constitutional dispensation started on January 7, 1993.

It also to recognises the country’s effort to maintain and sustain the 4th republic over the years.
