The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, addressed a gathering at the European Union meeting on developing countries, where he shared the Federal Government of Somalia’s transformative approach towards transitioning from humanitarian donations and emergency aid to sustainable development and investment projects.
In his speech, President Mohamud highlighted the significant progress made by Somalia in the realm of security, citing, “Since July 2022, the security forces of Somalia have succeeded in liberating more than 80 districts from the grip of Al Shabaab terrorists.” This achievement underscores the country’s determination to root out extremism and establish stability and peace.
One of the remarkable examples of the government’s commitment to progress can be found in coastal cities such as Xarardheere, where President Mohamud revealed, “We have restored live education after decades by renovating schools and investing in our teachers.” This initiative has not only rejuvenated the educational infrastructure but has also given hope to countless children who now have access to quality education, paving the way for a brighter and more promising future.
The President emphasized that Somalia’s focus is shifting from dependence on humanitarian assistance to self-reliance through development and investment projects. This transition aligns with the government’s broader vision to foster economic growth, reduce poverty, and improve the overall well-being of its citizens.
