President of Somalia Raises Regional Concerns with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia engaged in a conversation with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres, addressing the regional situation and expressing concerns about instability in the Horn of Africa. During the discussion, President Mohamud particularly highlighted perceived violations by Ethiopia against Somalia’s independence and sovereignty.

In the conversation, President Mohamud conveyed the perspectives and policies of the federal government of Somalia, which emphasize principles of good neighborliness, cooperation, and mutual respect.
He emphasized the commitment of the Somali people and government to preserving their unity and governance, emphasizing that any encroachments on these fundamental aspects would not be accepted.

The President’s communication with Secretary-General Guterres is one out of many series of efforts to launch a strong opposition to the memorandum of understanding that ensued between Somaliland and Ethiopia which grants Ethiopia access to the Red Sea.
