President’s Speech for May 18, The independence Day

Speaking in 29 anniversary of Somaliland’ s independence, President Muse Bihi said Somaliland spends on security sector more than its fair share due to repeated hostilities, tribal feuds in the country.

He said “we spent 9 million USD on trying to solve internal conflicts in the country last two years alone!  It is a stain on Somaliland’s image.”

In his address to the nation, President Muse said that the conflict creates havoc, death and destruction as well as displacement. The cause of all these maybe a simple thing.  

He added how coronavirus halted around 20 ongoing multi-million projects in the country or paralyzed the economy generally. 

He called the world to heed the self-determination of Somaliland people and not to make aid through Mogadishu as that contradicts Somaliland sovereignty.

Any future negotiation between Somaliland and Somaliland, the president stipulated before any talks, Somalia should consider talks like they happen between equal sovereign countries otherwise no more talks.

He added that an agreement is unlikely as long as Somalia continues territorial claims and interferes in Somaliland internal business.
