The Russian Ambassador to Djibouti and Somalia, Mikhail Golovanov, arrived in Mogadishu to deliver a food aid ship to the Federal Government of Somalia. The ship, which carries 25 tons of Russian grain, is expected to reach the port of Mogadishu in the next few days.
This is part of the Russian government’s initiative to provide food assistance to African countries facing food insecurity and humanitarian crises. Somalia is the first recipient of this aid, which was announced by the Russian government a few months ago as reported by the federal government.
The food aid ship is expected to benefit thousands of Somali families who are in need of humanitarian assistance. The Russian government has also pledged to continue its humanitarian and development cooperation with Somalia and other African countries.
The Ambassador was received at the Mogadishu Airport by the Somalia Minister of Information, Daud Aweis Jama, and the Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdurahman Nur Mohamed (Diinaari). They expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the Russian government and people for their generous support and solidarity.
