According to reports, Six Somalia soldiers have been confirmed dead after a landmine explosion in Lower Shabelle region of Somalia.
At least six Somalia soldiers were killed and four others wounded after a landmine exploded in Balad district of Middle Shabelle region on Wednesday.
According to the residents, the landmine was targeting the vehicle of the District Commissioner of Balad which at this time contained his bodyguards.
In a statement posted on its online affiliate media, the al-Shabaab terror group claimed responsibility for the attack saying the landmine explosion killed a bodyguard of the Balad District Commissioner.
Al-Shabaab and Somalia National Armed Forces, backed by African troops, have been engaged in military warfare for a decade now. The Somalia government had on several occasions claimed to have weakened the militants though the group still conducts operations in the country.
