Somali Soldier Kills Man in Hiiraan Region

A Somali soldier based in Mataban district in Hiiraan killed a civilian in a brawl. The soldier pulled the trigger and murdered the man.

The security officers have yet to disclose the details including the name and age of the victim.

Police officers in the region have also confirmed that they had a meeting with the family of the slain and convinced them that the murder should not take tribal dimension and become a feud.

The Mataban district police chief promised that his police forces in collaboration with the military men and women will capture the perpetrator.

The capture mission for the assailant has been launched in the region.

In some areas in Hiiraan, murder related crimes are easily tied to clannish feud and soon turns into a major war among clans with all sorts of sophisticated arms and ammunition used and it might last for years.

The police and military cooperation to capture the man alive is in order to prevent the return of clannish warfare that has been infamous in this region in past decades.

Generally, it is not uncommon to hear of soldiers unjustly killing civilians in Somalia but those involved have got away with such crimes in time past. This appears to be one of the very few times the police and military will be collaborative to bring the suspect to book.

This year alone has witnessed numerous complaints of increasing murder crimes committed by soldiers against civilians and many of the complaints have not received the much need attention or seriousness that should attend such offences.
