Somalia and Turkey have discussed strengthening security cooperation between the two countries. The new Somalia internal Security minister Hassan Hundubey and the Trukish ambassador to Somalia Mehmet Yilmiz have agreed to prioritise the security matters.
The renewed calls were made during meetings between Somalia’s new Internal Security Minister Hassan Hundubey Jimale and ambassador of Turkey Mehmet Yilmaz in Mogadishu.
The Turkish ambassador said the most important cooperation between the two countries is security development and they are prepared to maintain it.
The Somalia’s internal security Minister thanked the Turkish government for the support saying the unwavering backing by Ankara in the past decade was key to the return of peace and stability in Somalia.
The new security cooperation pledge between Mogadishu and Ankara comes weeks before the kickoff of parliamentary elections in Somalia.
Turkey and Somalia share strong diplomatic ties backed by a defense pact that saw hundreds of Somali special forces trained and equipped by the Turkish government.
