Amid escalating Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, resulting in tragic casualties, including women and children, the Federal Government of Somalia has affirmed its commitment to assist the people of Gaza.
Mohamud Moalim, Commissioner of Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency, announced on Sunday that Somalia intends to extend support to Gaza by dispatching medical professionals and aid once the Rafah border crossing reopens.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has worsened as continuous Israeli bombings persist. A communications blackout imposed by Israel hindered international aid delivery to Gaza on Saturday, according to Nebal Farsakh, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Prior to Saturday, only 84 aid trucks had reached Gaza, a meager supply for a population of 2.3 million in urgent need of electricity, sustenance, medical resources, and clean drinking water.
