Somalia government has issued Air Operator Certificate (AOC) to pilots and airlines for the first time since the country’s central government led by the then late Mohamed Siyad Barre collapsed.
In an event held in Mogadishu attended by the government officials, Prime Minister Mohamed Roble awarded the certificates to pilots and Freedom Air, a local airliner that has been in operation in 2018 in Kenya.
The award of the certificates comes barely eight months after the country registered two aircrafts. The certificates of aircraft registration were issued to Freedom Airlines and Hala Airlines.
The two airlines currently bear the 6O (Six Oscar) prefix on their aircrafts. Most of the aircrafts operating domestically in Somalia are Kenya registered aircrafts with 5Y prefix (Five Yankee).
The registration of these aircrafts locally is yet another development in the aviation sector.
