The Deputy District commissioner of Weleweyn in Lower Shabelle of Somalia was killed in an attack that left few others wounded.
The Deputy District Commissioner of Wanlaweyn in Lower Shabelle of Somalia Mohamed Abdillahi Omar, commonly known as Kosto, was killed on Sunday evening. Initial reports say the Deputy District Commissioner was killed in a grenade attack at his residence.
Unconfirmed reports added that few other people were wounded in the attack including the Father of late Mohamed Kosto. The wounded people were immediately rushed to hospitals for treatment.
The Security forces of Lower Shabelle, together with federal officials, conducted joint security checks at the scene. The Lower Shabelle officials described the incident as ‘a tragedy’ and pledged that the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to justice as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Al-Shabaab is the main group fighting against the Federal Government of Somalia and its member states; it carries out targeted operations to eliminate senior government officials and seizes territories from the government. However, the group has not announced that it orchestrated this attack.
