The Federal government of Somalia has conveyed its dissatisfaction with the recently disclosed Somaliland-Ethiopia Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and has initiated diplomatic efforts to garner support from global leaders in halting the deal.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, following a keynote address at the parliament on Tuesday, condemned the agreement, characterizing it as a violation of Somalia’s territory. Villa Somalia confirmed that President Hassan engaged in phone communications with world leaders, including Egypt’s President Abdifatah Al-Sisi and Qatar’s Emir Tamim Bin Hamad.
During discussions between President Al-Sisi and his Somalia counterpart, there was a shared emphasis on the importance of collaborative efforts to address regional challenges, as reported by Villa Somalia.
The Federal government of Somalia has vehemently denounced the MOU signed by Somaliland and Ethiopia, asserting that it reportedly offers comprehensive recognition to Somaliland in exchange for a lease of a sea gate to Ethiopia.
