In response to the calamitous floods striking Jubbaland, Southwest, and Hirshabelle States, the Federal Government of Somalia, under the guidance of Minister of Information Daud Aweis Jama, is swiftly mobilizing its resources and implementing comprehensive measures to mitigate the impact of this disaster.
Minister Jama emphasized the government’s commitment to this crisis, stressing the urgent need for support from all concerned parties. The overflowing of two major rivers has led to widespread damages and displacement of people, making preventive efforts imperative to curb further displacement and property destruction.
A recent report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) revealed that heavy rains and ensuing flash floods claimed the lives of at least four individuals in the South West and Galmudug regional states of Somalia.
In light of these developments, the Federal government has issued a stern warning to local residents, urging them to evacuate river areas promptly. The government advises relocation to safe spaces to prevent additional casualties caused by the ongoing heavy rains across the country.
