Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has taken further steps to bolster the country’s efforts in combating the al-Shabab group. In an effort to expedite ongoing military operations in the Galmudug and Hirshabelle states, President Hassan has made key appointments within the Somalia National Army.
Brigadier General Madey Nurey Sheikh has been appointed as the Deputy Commander of the Somalia National Army, signifying his crucial role in overseeing strategic military operations. Additionally, Dayah Abdi Abdulle has been promoted to the rank of Major General and entrusted with the responsibility of leading the Infantry of the National Army.
These appointments follow closely on the heels of the President’s announcement, just two weeks prior, regarding the apprehension of several military officers who were held accountable for a regrettable withdrawal of troops from the Galgadud region.
This withdrawal, prompted by a devastating al-Shabab assault on soldiers in the village of Cosweyne in early September, had resulted in a setback for the ongoing military efforts in Galmudug State.
