Somalia President Meets with Djiboutian Counterpart in Nairobi to Discuss Security Cooperation

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a crucial meeting in Nairobi with his Djiboutian counterpart, President Ismaail Omar Guelleh, to deliberate on bilateral cooperation in the realms of security, stability, and the eradication of terrorism in the region.

The meeting, which took place in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, on the sideline of this year’s United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) under the theme of ‘’effective, inclusive and sustainable multilateral actions to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution’’. saw both leaders engaging in comprehensive discussions on fostering collaboration between Somalia and Djibouti.

The primary focus of the talks was centered on joint efforts to enhance security, combat terrorism, and promote peace and stability in the region, particularly in light of the growing threats posed by extremist groups.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed the importance of fostering a strong alliance between Somalia and Djibouti to address shared security challenges effectively. He underscored the significance of regional cooperation in combatting the proliferation of terrorist activities and the promotion of lasting peace in the Horn of Africa.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the agreement to strengthen intelligence-sharing mechanisms between the two countries.

The leaders acknowledged the vital role that timely and accurate intelligence plays in preventing security threats and pledged to enhance coordination in this regard.
Somalia has been signing multiple security deals in recent weeks with Uganda, the United States and Turkey as heightened tensions in the Horn of Africa raise fears of possible armed conflicts in the region.
