Somalia President to Address Parliament Today

Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdillahi Mohamed ‘Farmaajo’ is expected to give a speech in parliament today, according to reliable sources within the presidency.

In his speech, the president is expected to discuss latest developments; including the general outlook of the nation; financial matters, national security, the lattest outcome of the grand Dhuusemareeb conference between the central government and its regional autonomies, and above all, the vote of no confidence on Prime Minister Hassan Khayre that led to his dismissal.

He is expected to lodge a formal request with the MPs in extending the grace period given for nominating a new prime minister which is about to expire as the caretaker government’s mandate has only ten days left.

To fill the vacuum, Somali president Mr Mohamed Abdillahi has the constitutional authority to select a new prime minister within 30 days who will form  new government with cabinet ministers to lead the nation.

The president will also travel to Dhuusamareeb to participate in the summit of the presidents of regional administrations. According to a brief declaration by Presidential Director Abdinour Mohamed Ahmed, the president will go to Dhuusemareeb to chair the second phase of the conference between the central government and federal regional units.

The international community says that the absence of a president will delegitimise the outcome of the conference as it will not be inclusive and binding.
