Somalia Unequivocally Backed Ethiopia’s Dam

In an interview to Radio Fana of Ethiopia, Somalia Ambassador to Addis Ababa Abdihim Abdlahi Omar “ Omay” said clearly that his country Somalia backs Addis Ababa quest for the completion of the dam leaving behind historical nod for the Arab world. “ it is a problem but a peaceful protect” he said referring to GERD dam of the Ethiopia. “ I hope it will be a benefit for the continent as whole” he added. His statement came while the tension between Ethiopia and Egypt is at breaking point.

The dam pioneered by the Ethiopia’s late PM worried Cairo that their fair share of water will be dried up once the refilling begins. Ethiopia tried to calm down Cairo and reiterated that the dam won’t affect her vital water resources.

Ambassador Omay said “he respects Ethiopia’s utilization of its national resources and that’s why Somalia opposed Arab League vote against the Dam.” A half century Somalia has independence wasn’t an independent from Arab’s political dictations.

Mr. Omay said the construction of the dam is in line with the interest of the Horn of Africa for electrification and cheap lighting

The dam if finish is said to light the entire East Africa if not the continent.
