Somalia’s prime minister seeks to have IMF debt canceled

By Staff Writer

Somalia’s prime minister Hassan Ali Khayre is looking for ways to get the International Monetary Fund (IMF) debt the country owes cancelled. A conference held in Mogadishu between the prime minister and his cabinet members sought to determine whether the terms set by the IMF for debt relief have been met. The debt has accumulated over many years.

Abdirahman Du’aale Bayle, Somalia’s finance minister has stated that a lot has been achieved in tackling the country’s economic challenges. However, there are still a lot of financial issues that need to be tackled before the Somalia’s scheduled meeting with IMF on debt forgiveness acceleration process in December in Nairobi, Kenya.
