The traditional elders of Galmudug, Somalia, have pledged their unwavering support to the federal government’s efforts in liberating the nation from the grip of al-Shabaab group. The pledge was made during a meeting held in Dhusamareeb, the administrative capital of Galmudug State, and attended by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
President Hassan Sheikh emphasized the critical role played by Galmudug’s traditional elders in the country’s counterterrorism strategy. Their leadership in community mobilization, guidance, encouragement, and support for the armed forces is seen as instrumental in achieving the goal of liberating the remaining areas under al-Shabaab control in Galmudug State.
The President also highlighted the elders’ responsibility in fostering unity among the populace and assisting the National Army in its efforts to eradicate the terrorist elements responsible for the loss of innocent lives.
The meeting took place shortly after President Hassan Sheikh’s visit to the region, where he will be spending a few days, reinforcing the counterterrorism endeavors in the area.
