Somalia’s Jubbaland state security forces foiled a planned al-Shabab attack in Dhobley district in the Gedo region. However, the government did not disclose if they apprehended individuals in connection with the matter.
According to security officials, the security forces removed a landmine that Alshabab had allegedly planted on the main road in the district to harm civilians. Still, their sinister plans were foiled without any casualties.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but al-Shabab frequently carries out such assaults against government forces as reported by the security agents.
This incident occurred just one day after a suicide bombing at a bustling restaurant in Mogadishu killed five people in Mogadishu. Alshabab claimed responsibility for this attack.
In recent months, the Somalia government has intensified its military campaign against al-Shabab and launched the second phase of the operations, claiming to have liberated strategic towns from Alshabab.
