Somalia’s Parliament debates agro, immigration bills

Somalia’s parliament is today expected to debate two bills on agriculture and immigration.

Before any debate, according to parliament procedures, the two proposals would be read before the members of parliament, then discussion and debate would commence.

The parliamentarians of Somalia have been away because of the lockdown, but some MPs were on personal errands. Therefore, the parliament sessions have been suspended since Somalia’s president Abdilahi Farmaajo participation in Dhuusamareed summit.

Yesterday, the MPs were summoned for a parliament gathering. Most of the members of the parliament are expected to stay in Mogadishu at the moment.

The Speaker of the parliament Mursal Sheikh has accused the parliamentarians of  unjustified absence from their duties of passing bills into laws.

There are two bills; agriculture and immigration; before the members of the parliament for deliberations and which would be finally passed the into law after requisite stages of approvals. These two issues are extremely essential for the nation’s constitutions.

Somalia’s legislative body has been off-limits as its members are scattered all over the world due to personal and security issues and they receive their UN stipend online and do not need to sign the check physically. This among others encouraged the duty truancy but this may change soon after the speaker issued a stern warning about lackadaisical attitude towards the discharge of their duties.
