Mogadishu- Somalia’s parliament ” illegally” removed Somali MP Mr. Hassan Ali Khayr following a controversy with the president ” fully knowing what happened in the parliament wasn’t legal, fully knowing my removal wasn’t debated over nor voted for, I resigned for the good of the country, ” said the PM Khayre “I don’t want to be a part of any political crisis, and I want to lead Somalis by example.” said Mr. Khayre.
Khayre has been a prime minister of Somalia for four years approximately and had good working relationship with the president. The removal was swift and unexpected amid tense clannish politics among the government on one side, and PM’s tribe on the other.
He is the longest serving prime minister in postwar Somalia since Siyad Barre’s flight to Nigeria. Other governments failed because of bickering and endless quarrel between the prime minister and the president, who were most of the time hail from two hostile clans.
Following the dismissal of the prime minister, Somalia’s president Farmaajo issued a presidential decree nominating Mahdi Mohamed Guled ” Khadar”, previously deputy PM, as the caretaker of the government until a new nomination of PM occurs.
