Somalia’s Security Forces urge public help in capturing Al-Shabaab suspects linked to Bakara Market attacks

Security forces of Somalia have appealed to the public to apprehend several suspects believed to be responsible for bomb attacks in Mogadishu’s commercial zones. State media aired footage from covert cameras that recorded operatives believed to be Alshabab executing bomb attacks in crowded business districts, specifically within Bakara Market.

The video exposes both the perpetrators of the bombings and their collaborators. The Somalian government installed surveillance cameras for intelligence purposes. However, traders were reportedly told by Al-Shabaab to remove or deactivate the camera under threat of death and property damage.

The broadcasted video reveals the tactics individuals intended to use for conducting bombings in commercial areas, including Bakara, Somalia’s largest open-air market. It features six members actively planning and executing the attacks.

Authorities blamed the recent explosions in Bakara for Alshabab. The footage also shows another faction distributing threatening letters to market traders, which is linked to the surveillance effort.
