Hargaysa, 07, November 2018. Hostilities between Somaliland and Puntland over the territorial administration of Tukaraq village, in Sool region of Somaliland, have intensified. Sporadic gunfire could be heard as forces from the two opposing sides engaged each other.
The resumed hostility coincided with the United Nation(UN) envoy Nicholas Haysom’s visit to Garowe and Hargeisa in Somaliland, to try and resolve the tensions.
The hostility between the two is viewed as incitement anda systemic political sabotage of the ongoing peace processes. It is also seen as trying to belittle the international communities that are pushing for the stability of the region as a whole.
Somaliland and Puntland stationed their armies in Tukaraq last year, following intensified tensions on administration between the two. The conflict has left an unknown number of casualties.
