Somaliland government rescinded the license of the Universal TV following a shutdown of its office in Hargeisa.
But the shutdown wasn’t enough, the government thinks. They called the private firms who had a commercial contract with the TV to withdraw immediately.
They fell short only of telling the businesses of which TV they redirect their advertisements “take business out of this TV.” Guled Dafac spoke against this practice and called it “illegal.”
Former media tycoon Yusuf Gaboobe astonishingly welcomed the step.
The western press advocacy condemned the malpractices but the government didn’t heed to their calls.
