The Deputy and Acting Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives, Saed Mire Giirre, has formally announced the upcoming election for the position of House of Representatives’ Speakership. This position became vacant when Abdirizak Khalif resigned due to the ongoing conflicts in LasAnod.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Speaker, the election for the House of Speakership is scheduled to take place on Sunday, with all aspiring candidates being urged to submit their candidacy documents to the Secretary General by Saturday.
The primary contenders vying for the Speakership position are Yasin Faratoon, representing the ruling party Kulmiye, who previously contested for this position, and Ali Hamud Jibril from the UCID party, backed by members of the opposition party, Waddani.
However, the opposition parties are determined to retain the Speakership, the ruling party is equally determined to secure victory in this election.
