Somaliland has unequivocally dismissed Somalia’s recent statements concerning the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Somaliland and Ethiopia. According to the Somaliland government,The MoU, focused on collaborative efforts spanning security, trade, and infrastructure development, represents a sovereign decision forged between two independent nations, devoid of the necessity for third-party endorsement.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland reaffirmed the foundation of the understanding between Somaliland and Ethiopia, emphasizing mutual respect and a shared commitment to regional stability.
The unilateral characterization of the MoU by Somalia as unlawful is deemed a clear violation of international norms, further underscoring Somalia’s persistent disregard for the self-determination rights of the people of Somaliland.
Somaliland maintains its stance as an independent entity entitled to engage in international agreements with its counterparts. The plea to the international community is to duly recognize the aspirations of the Somaliland populace for official acknowledgment.
