SOMALILAND.COM – Somaliland’s government denied that Togdheer region was allocated only five percent in the projects of the second phase of Somaliland’s Development Fund.
Hassan Mohamed Gaafaadhi, the minister of the National Planning, said it was too early to estimate each region’s allocation from the fund. And hence, the projection that Togdheer received only five percent is false.
Minister Gaafaadhi emphasized that the fund’s projects were a work in progress and all finalized. He argued that even the secretariat of the Fund could not ascertain the allocation of regions at this moment.
The minister was reacting to a leaked paper that allegedly shows the share of each of Somaliland’s six regions will receive from the second phase of Somaliland Development Fund.
The leaked paper showed that Togdheer, the second-most populous region in the country was allocated only five percent of the fund. Maroodijeh region had the lion’s share of the fund with 40 percent of resources allocated to her according to the paper.
The leaked paper created an uproar among the people of Togdheer region for perceived marginalization.
