The approved election law, recently endorsed by the House of Representatives, is experiencing ongoing delays in the House of Elders. Despite the speaker’s announcement assuring a discussion on Monday, the anticipated deliberation did not transpire as scheduled.
In response to speculations regarding potential amendments to critical aspects of the law, the Chairman of the committee tasked with assessing the legislation clarified that no changes were made to the article advocating the combination of elections. However, he acknowledged the possibility of minor amendments in specific articles for technical reasons, without providing further details.
This marks the fourth instance in which the House of Elders has sought an extension, having recently concluded an additional one-month period aimed at fulfilling their responsibilities.
The House of Representatives had previously unanimously endorsed the law, promoting the amalgamation of Presidential and Political Association elections scheduled for the end of this year.
