The Somaliland House of Representatives has endorsed the amended electoral laws, with the House of Elders similarly supporting the decision on Saturday. This development is poised to expedite the electoral process within the nation.
According to statements from the House of Representatives, 59 members of parliament voted in favor of the amendments, while 12 lawmakers dissented, and the Speaker abstained from voting. The next step involves the submission of the documents to the President for final approval.
Additionally, on Saturday, the Somaliland House of Elders unanimously approved the amended electoral laws, resolving constitutional discrepancies that had been under scrutiny among political factions in recent months.
Of note, the amended electoral laws consolidate Presidential and Political Association elections, scheduled for November 2024, a decision that has garnered support from opposition parties, as indicated in their separate statements.
