The Committee of the House of Representatives in Somaliland assigned for electoral matters convened a meeting on Tuesday with representatives from five political associations who express opposition to the recently proposed election timelines.
Following a closed-door session between the committee and the representatives, Abdillahi Darawal, Chairman of the Horseed Political Association, addressed the media. He reiterated their steadfast refusal to endorse the new election timeline, asserting that it violates the constitutional framework.
The electoral proposal advocates the synchronization of the Somaliland Presidential and political association elections, scheduled to occur concurrently next year, rather than holding them separately within the same year.
This proposal enjoys broad support from the major political parties, as they perceive it as the most pragmatic approach to resolving the longstanding political turmoil surrounding the Somaliland elections.
